The Apple Tree – Conduct Grades

Your child has a red shiny apple on my apple tree. If a classroom rule is broken, I ask your child to “Go see my tree.” Most trips to the tree are preceded by a warning. On the first trip to the tree a worm is placed on your child’s apple. That worm begins eating a hole in your child’s apple. A second trip to the tree will cause your child’s apple to turn brown and begin to rot. A third trip will cause your child’s apple to fall off of the tree and your child will bring home a note asking him/her to write a paragraph about his/her day.
Your child begins each nine week period with a perfect score of 100 in conduct. Each trip to the apple tree will deduct 2 points from your child’s conduct grade. Trips to the office will take 10 points off of your child’s conduct grade. At the end of each day I clean the tree and your child begins the next day with a clean slate. However, the points that were deducted for the day are not added back to the conduct score. We all make mistakes, but you should insist on your child making an “A” in conduct. It can be done! Last year 75% of the class ended the year with an “A” average in conduct. Don’t allow your child to fall into the bottom 25%. My “Citizen of the Month” is chosen by looking at conduct grades.

For example: If your child goes to see my tree 5 times during the first week of school, he/she would lose 10 points for the week and the highest conduct grade possible for the first nine weeks would be 90.   So... to make an “A” in conduct your child cannot visit my tree more than 5 times during the nine week period.
